August 24, 2009 - American Association (AA)
Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS- Wichita Wingnuts' left fielder Greg Porter has been named the American Association Batter of the Week for August 17th-23rd.

It marks the fourth time this season Porter has won Batter of the Week honors. Porter went 8 for 23 (.348) with two home runs, 11 RBIs, five runs scored, and eight walks. From August 19th-21st, Porter had three consecutive nights with three RBIs. Porter's week included a pair of three-run home runs, both off of left-hand pitching. On Friday at Sioux Falls, Porter's two-out, three-run double in the top of the 10th proved the difference in the Wingnuts' 10-7 victory.

Porter, who is hitting .375, has led the league's batting race since late June. Porter also ranks second with 19 home runs and 80 RBIs. The All-Star is also first in the league in hits (132), on-base percentage (.458), slugging percentage (.619), and extra-base hits (46). In addition to being named Batter of the Week four times, Porter was also the American Association Batter of the Month for June.

The former Angels' farmhand is within reach of setting a new league record for batting average in a single season. Lincoln's Pichi Balet hit .378 in 2006. Porter has 40 multi-hit games this season, one shy of Kevin Hooper's club record of 41 set last season.

The Wingnuts begin a six-game homestand tonight to close out the regular season. First pitch against the Lincoln Saltdogs is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-4625.
