Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
SHREVEPORT, La. - Shreveport-Bossier Captains righty Thad Markray had his best performance of the season Friday night, shutting out the South Division first-half champion Fort Worth Cats on the road through eight innings, giving the Captains a big 4-0 win in the second-half pennant race.
For his efforts, Markray has been named the American Association's Teamline Direct Pitcher of the Week, the first Shreveport-Bossier player to win a weekly award from the league this season. Markray joins teammate Jimmy Heard, who was named the Pitcher of the Month for July, as Captains players to win league awards this season.
The veteran righthander allowed only four hits in the Captains 4-0 win Friday night, including three leadoff doubles where only one got to third. He did not walk any Cats and struck out four, improving his record to 5-9 on the season. Markray had previously thrown six shutout innings against Fort Worth on August 11, a 9-1 win for the Captains at Fair Grounds Field.
The Shreveport-Bossier Captains are back home for their final regular-season series on Monday, August 24, with three games against the El Paso Diablos. Monday is Jose Cuervo Presents Margarita Monday, with half-priced margaritas throughout the game. It is also Ladies' night, with free admission to the park for women over 21. Game time is 7:05 p.m. All games are broadcast on ESPN Radio, KRMD-1340 AM and streamed live on supertalk1340.com, with streaming video provided by NiftyTV on www.sbcaptains.com for all home games and select road games. For information on tickets, promotions, advertising, and other opportunities with the Captains, check out the team's Web site at www.sbcaptains.com, or call the Fair Grounds Field office at (318) 636-5555.
