Pelicans Complete Comeback in Extras to Beat Keys

FREDERICK, Md. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans scored five unanswered runs to take down the Frederick Keys 6-5 in 10 innings from Harry Grove Stadium on Wednesday night.

Trailing 5-1 in the eighth inning, the Pelicans (39-62, 18-16) exploded for four runs. Delvin Zinn reached on an error to begin the inning before Cam Balego moved him to second and reached himself on a fielder's choice to put two aboard. Another error, hit into by Tyler Payne, allowed Zinn to score before Tyler Durna ripped an RBI single to make it a 5-3 game. Then, after Aramis Ademan walked to load the bases, both Kevonte Mitchell and Carlos Sepulveda walked to tie the game at 5-5.

Garrett Kelly (W, 1-0) threw a scoreless ninth for the Pelicans to send it to extra innings.

In the top of the 10th, Myrtle Beach struck against Frederick (40-61, 11-21) reliever Zach Matson (L, 1-1) when Mitchell lined an RBI single through the left side, scoring Durna, to give the Birds a 6-5 advantage. Kelly then locked down the win with a 1-2-3 bottom of the inning.

In the first inning, the Pelicans struck first with a RBI fielder's choice from Payne to make it 1-0.

The Keys fought back in the fourth, banging out four-straight hits with two outs. After Robert Neustrom smacked an RBI double, Cadyn Grenier followed with an RBI two-bagger of his own and Patrick Dorrian tripled home Grenier to make it 3-1 Frederick.

In the fifth, JC Escarra hit a two-run single to give the Keys a 5-1 advantage.

Myrtle Beach will take on the Keys at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday in the third and final game of the series. The Birds will send RHP Javier Assad (3-7, 3.95 ERA) to the hill, while Frederick will start RHP Blaine Knight (0-7, 6.14 ERA).
