Barrie Colts News Release

A two goal performance by Matej Pekar including a third period marker with 56 seconds to go lifted Barrie over Kingston 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Barrie wrapped up their weekend in search of a win before heading home. It was a battle of the two teams at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings and one the Colts felt should be a trip home with two points.

After having a slow start in Ottawa just a day ago, it was more of the same for Barrie who came out with just four shots on goal in the first period for the second straight game.

Jet Greaves got the nod from coach Hawerchuk in this one and made some big stops in the opening frame, including one right at the buzzer to carry a scoreless game into the intermission.

The Frontenacs did score a goal, but had it called back as the play was ruled offside leading up to the goal.

The second period got off to a much better start for the Colts as they were able to finally put a puck in the net. Off a point shot from Jack York, Matej Pekar tipped it past the Kingston net-minder for the opening goal of the game. Victor Hadfield also recorded an assist on Pekar's 13th of the season.

Barrie held the lead for about ten minutes, before the Frontenacs scored two quickly to take the lead. First one came off the stick of Ian Derungs and then less than two minutes later it was Dawson Baker putting them in front to end the period up 2-1.

In the third period the Colts were able to find the equalizer. It was an innocent looking shot by Nathan Allensen that found it's way through a screen and into the net for his 2nd of the season. Jason Willms and Pekar collected assists on the tying marker.

In the last minute of play it was Matej Pekar once again finding the back of the net for his second of the game and 14th of the season which held up to be the winner in a 3-2 win over Kingston.

The win is Jet Greaves second straight win after collecting a 5-1 win over Owen Sound last week.

Barrie is next in action this coming Thursday as the play host to the Sudbury Wolves at 7:30pm. Tickets still available.
