The Niagara IceDogs were back in action Sunday afternoon for the final time in Hamilton.
The Bulldogs jumped up to an early 2-0 lead in the first period. With just over 2 minutes remaining in the period, Phil Tomasino was was sprung on a breakaway by Oliver Castleman. Tomasino scored under the goaltenders elbow to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 1 heading into the second period.
Jacob Paquette tied the game at 2 11 minutes into the second period! Paquette's blast from the blueline was assisted by Ben Jones and Matt Philip. The Bulldogs responded with two quick goals. But it was Ben Jones who brought the 'Dogs back within one. Jones roofed his 20th of the season from just above the face off circle. Kirill Makismov and Matt Philip were credited with the assists.
Midway through the third period, Andrew Bruder proved being in the right place at the right time works out well! Elijah Roberts let the puck fly from the blueline in the offensive zone and Andrew Bruder redirected the puck into the net to score his fourth goal of the season! Ben Jones was credited with the secondary assist on the goal. Hamilton re-gained the lead on a powerplay goal, but Philip Tomasino tied the game with less than 20 seconds remaining in the game!
The game headed to overtime, but the extra five minutes solved nothing. This game went into a shootout, where captain Ben Jones netted the winner!
The IceDogs came from behind an exciting game to close out the weekend! With this afternoon's win, the IceDogs solidify a win of the K-9 Cup!
