Pecker Promoted To San Antonio
November 26, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
Phoenix, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL have announced that forward Cory Pecker has been loaned to the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League, the top affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes. Pecker is the first player in RoadRunners' history to receive a call-up to the AHL.
Pecker, 24, leads the RoadRunners and is third in the ECHL scoring race with nine goals and 20 points through 14 games. The Montreal, Quebec native returns to the AHL where he spent a majority of the first three seasons of his professional career playing for Cincinnati, Binghamton, and, most recently, Manitoba at the conclusion of last year. Pecker was named runner-up for ECHL Player of the Month honors in October after finishing with five goals and 11 points in the first five games of the regular season. He opened the season with a career-best 11-game scoring streak, including a stretch where he recorded multiple points in six consecutive games. Pecker has 34 goals and 71 points in 206 career AHL games.
"I extremely thrilled for Cory to get this opportunity and have the distinction of being our first player to receive an AHL call-up," said RoadRunners General Manager and Head Coach Ron Filion. "It's also great to say that our first call-up stayed local in some sense by joining the Phoenix Coyotes organization."
Pecker is expected to join the Rampage in time for their game tonight against the Milwaukee Admirals at the SBC Center in San Antonio.
Phoenix will host "Turn Back the Clock Night" at 7:11PM tonight against the Long Beach Ice Dogs. The Stanley Cup, sports' most prestigious trophy, will be on display for the general public from 5PM-6:45PM at the America West Arena Plaza. The Stanley Cup is currently on a 20-city ECHL tour to help raise money and awareness for the hurricane relief efforts. Fans will be able to have their picture taken with the Stanley Cup and donate to the ECHL/Salvation Army Hurricane Relief Fund. For those who don't have a camera, printed pictures, provided by Big Mack Images, will be available for a $10 donation.
The RoadRunners will also wear vintage sweaters from the 1977-78 season when they finished runner-up to the Pacific Hockey League Champion San Francisco Shamrocks. These game-worn jerseys will available for purchase following the game through an online auction at www.phxroadrunners.com beginning Thursday, December 1 and running through Saturday, December 10. A portion of the proceeds will also benefit the ECHL/Salvation Army Hurricane Relief Fund.
It's also the second of six "Past Great Nights" at America West Arena as the RoadRunners honor former International Hockey League star and team broadcaster Darren Veitch. The first 2,000 fans will receive a coupon for a commemorative Darren Veitch pint glass that they will receive upon exiting the arena.
