San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - The Gulls have had their way with the Long Beach Ice Dogs over the years and Friday night was no exception, as San Diego picked up another win against its Southern California rival, 4-2, before 4,425 at the ipayOne Center.

Dan DaSilva had a goal and two assists, while Tyler Weiman stopped 25 shots for the Gulls (6-7-2), who snapped a two-game losing streak and moved into a second-place tie with Long Beach (6-7-2) in the Pacific Division. San Diego is now 42-14-2 against the Ice Dogs, which includes play in the West Coast Hockey League.

DaSilva gave the Gulls an early 1-0 lead 2:34 into the first period with his second goal since being assigned from the American Hockey League's Lowell Lock Monsters. Richard Keyes carried the puck into the Long Beach zone and dropped it for DaSilva, who blasted a shot behind Long Beach goaltender Olivier Michaud.

Pierre-Luc Sleigher's power-play marker at 10:24 of the first made it 2-0 San Diego. After taking Guillaume Fournier's pass, Sleigher stepped into the slot and beat Michaud for his fourth marker of the year. With the assist, Fournier extended his career-high point streak to nine games.

Long Beach got on the board 69 seconds later, thanks to Ash Goldie's first tally of the night. Goldie's original shot from the left side was stopped by Weiman. Goldie, however, picked up the rebound behind the net and banked it in off Weiman's back.

San Diego regained its two-goal lead 16:44 into the second period with another power-play marker. Jesse Bennefield got the goal - his third of the season - taking DaSilva's centering pass from behind the net and beating Michaud with a wrister low to the ice.

Goldie cut the deficit back to one 2:05 into the third period with his second goal of the game - seventh of the season. After stripping the puck from Richard Keyes, Goldie drove down the left wing and blistered a shot over Weiman's outstretched glove.

Richard Keyes answered and sealed the Gulls victory at the 14:56 mark, beating Michaud on a breakaway. DaSilva, who picked up his third point on the play, found an open Keyes and the San Diego veteran was off to the races, eventually slipping home a backhander.
