Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - After two days in Las Vegas, Nevada it was time for the Victoria Salmon Kings to get back to business tonight, against the Wranglers. The Wranglers beat the Salmon Kings 3-1.

The teams skated the first 16:21 into the books, before the Wranglers were granted a five on three man advantage, when the puck was chipped over the glass in the Salmon Kings zone. Vegas Forward Chris Neiszner converted the powerplay opportunity, scoring his first professional goal at 17:31, to give the Wranglers a 1-0 lead at the intermission.

The Salmon Kings played a classic road game, checking Vegas closely and keeping control of the tempo throughout. Goaltender BJ Boxma made his second start on the road trip, and came up with some big stops throughout the game. Victoria's offense sparked at 7:56 of the second period.

Forward Dustan Heintz, who can find his name on the score sheet in every game of the trip so far, lit the lamp above the head of Wranglers Netminder Marc Magliarditi, to tie the game at one.

The Salmon Kings and Wranglers came back to the ice after the second intermission each looking for the next goal, which could be the game winner in such a tight checking match-up. Wranglers Defenseman Christian Chartier thought he had the Wranglers second marker eight minutes in to the final period, but the play was blown dead before the puck crossed the line.

Las Vegas took the momentum of the no-goal, and turned it into the tie-breaker. Forward Dan Tudin set up a streaking Darren Lynch who beat Boxma to give the Wranglers the 2-1 lead. Lynch was not finished with the score sheet, recording his second of the night at 18:39 on the powerplay. He dove for a loose puck in front of the Salmon Kings net and pushed it past Boxma for the final goal of the game.

Victoria did not convert any of their four chances on the powerplay while the Wranglers finished two for five. Las Vegas out-shot the Salmon Kings 37-20 in Magliarditi's sixth win of the season, while Boxma records the loss.

The Victoria Salmon Kings travel overnight to Long Beach, California where they will play the Ice Dogs tomorrow evening. Their five game trip ends on Tuesday night against the Phoenix Roadrunners. The Salmon Kings will return home Wednesday, to get ready for the first of three games against the Utah Grizzlies next Friday.

Neiszner's goal in the first period was marked by fans in the Orleans Arena raining the ice with stuffed bears. The Salmon Kings first annual Teddy Bear Toss is scheduled for the Sunday December 4, 2005. After the game on Sunday fans are invited onto the ice to participate in the KidSport Post-Game Skate with the Salmon Kings.
