Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, CA- Throughout the past few baseball seasons, Sara Lee Bread has become synonymous with Minor League Baseball games across the country. On selected summer nights at ballparks everywhere, fans receive loaves of Sara Lee Soft 'N Smooth bread as they leave the game. Having distributed over 100,000 loaves in three seasons, the Grizzlies staff has become accustomed to the getting the same responses and questions when fans receive their free loaf of bread. Without a doubt, the single most asked question is "Where's the peanut butter and jelly?"
Grizzlies fans will no longer have to ponder that question because on Saturday, August 4th the Grizzlies will pay tribute the greatest sandwich ever invented, the beloved PB & J. Fans attending this weekend's contest against Oklahoma will be treated to a PB & J Cook Off by local media celebrities, PB & J samples on the concourse, a PB & J eating contest and by the time they leave the ballpark, fans will not only have an increased knowledge of this great American snack, but they might also leave with all the necessary ingredients to make their very own PB & J.
As part of Saturday's festivities, the Grizzlies will be hosting the world's very first Peanut Butter and Jelly Cook Off. Cook Offs have become a staple at county fairs and town carnivals, showcasing items such as chili, salsa, and barbeque sauce. Considering the many debates centered on the fabled PB & J: crust or no crust, crunchy or creamy, strawberry or grape, toasted or untoasted, the possibilities of creating a unique sandwich are endless.
The Grizzlies will conduct a Central Valley search to find the best PB&J chefs for our first annual Cook Off. All chefs will be from various local media outlets who will go sandwich to sandwich to see who has the best PB & J in town. Judges will present awards for Best in Show, Most Creative, and People's Choice. To cast "votes" for the People's Choice award, fans can donate money to their personal favorite. All proceeds raised in the Cook Off will benefit the Junior Grizzlies, a non-competitive baseball league for kids with mental and physical disabilities.
When fans leave the game, some will receive the customary loaf of Sara Lee bread and an even luckier number of fans will get peanut butter and jelly to make their very own sandwich.
Also this Saturday, the first 2,500 fans will receive Tim Lincecum backpacks thanks to Full Throttle. As part of the annual Community Fund Weekend, Grizzlies players will be sporting San Francisco Giants jerseys during the game. The game worn jerseys will be available in a live auction following the game, with all proceeds going towards the Junior Grizzlies.
Tickets for the Grizzlies remaining 15 home games are available at the Chukchansi Park ticket office, by phone at 559-320-TIXS, or online at www.fresnogrizzlies.com.
