Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Des Moines, IA - Jake Fox hit a walk-off grand slam to cap a five run ninth inning as the Iowa Cubs beat the Sidewinders 10-6 on Thursday night. Fox, who finished with five RBI in the game, drilled Chad Harville's 1-2 pitch over the wall in left to give the Cubs the victory and even the series at a game apiece.

The blown save is the second straight for Harville who also failed to hold a ninth inning lead on Monday night at Tucson Electric Park. Trying to protect a one run lead, Harville opened the ninth by allowing a single to Joe Simokaitis and a walk to Carlos Rojas. After Tony Richie popped out on a bunt attempt, Harville struck out Eric Patterson but allowed a single to Felix Pie that tied the game at six. Geovany Soto walked to set the stage for Fox.

The Sidewinders rallied from a 5-2 deficit to take a 6-5 lead. Tucson scored twice in the sixth on a RBI single from Brian Barden and a RBI double from Matt Erickson. Erickson delivered a RBI single in the eighth to tie the game and Robby Hammock doubled in Alex Romero in the ninth to give the Sidewinders the lead.

Clay Rapada worked an inning and two thirds for the win.

Erickson went 3-5 with two RBI to extend his hitting streak to seven. He was one of five Sidewinders with multi-hit games. Barden had two hits and two RBI while Hammock, Jeff Salazar and Jamie D'Antona each had two hits.

The Sidewinders stranded 11 baserunners.

The Sidewinders and Cubs play game three of their series on Friday night at Principal Park. Left-hander Bill Murphy (1-2, 4.10) starts for Tucson against right-hander Sean Gallagher (2-1, 2.50) for Iowa. First pitch is at 5:05 Tucson time. The game will air LIVE on COOL 1450 beginning at 5:00.
