Game Keys: Colby Lewis pitched eight innings and allowed one run as the Sacramento Rivercats held on to defeat the Zephyrs 2-1 at Raley Field on Thursday. The loss snaps the Zephyrs four game winning streak. Sacramento scored a pair of runs off of Mike Pelfrey with two out in the first inning.
Jorge Piedra and Jason Perry each had a pair of two out singles to drive in the lone runs of the day for the Rivercats, Pelfrey pitched 7 innings and absorbed the loss. Lewis worked eight innings and improved his record to 7-1. Fernando Tatis tagged a Lewis fastball over the centerfield wall for his 14th home run of the season. Ruddy Lugo pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his ninth save. The game had a nineteen minute delay in the sixth inning as Zephyrs outfielder Ben Johnson suffered a severe ankle injury.
Johnson was carted off the field and taken by ambulance to a local Sacramento hospital. Johnson waved to crowd of 9,993 in Sacramento that applauded him as he left the field. The series is even at one game each.
Game Notes: Willie Collazo earned his 4th win in his last six appearances and has not allowed a run in 14 innings pitched ... The first place Zephyrs have won 11 of their last 13 games .. The Z's have a five game lead on Oklahoma for first place in the PCL American South Division. Pitcher Jon Adkins and catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. have cleared waivers and accepted their assignment to New Orleans.... Alomar was added to the roster on Thursday and Adkins will join the team on Friday in Sacramento..... Z's starter Brian Lawrence was promoted to the Mets on Thursday and earned a win in Milwaukee ...He worked five innings and allowed 3 runs on eight hits .... The Z's have promoted 11 position players and 10 pitchers to the Mets this season .... New Orleans has made 91 roster moves this season, at this point last season the team made 125 roster moves....
Coming Up: The Zephyrs and Sacramento meet in the third game of a four game series on Friday. Jason Vargas pitches for the Z's and Brad Knox starts for the Rivercats in the 9:00 p.m. game at Raley Field.
