Payne and Brown Post Career Nights in Texas' Win over Suns

FRISCO, TX - The Texas Legends (22-18) used career nights from Cameron Payne and Moses Brown to outshine the Northern Arizona Suns (8-31) 131-110.

The two teams knocked down 50% each in the first to keep the quarter close. Northern Arizona grabbed the first lead and went up by as many as six, but Texas took over midway through. Yudai Baba knocked down a triple to put Texas up nine with seconds to play but Ahmed Hill got the final say for the Suns to close it to a six-point gap. Hill started the second in the same fashion to forge a three-point game. The proximity kicked the Legends into gear and sent them on a 14-2 run over the next five minutes. Northern Arizona cut the gap to single digits with two minutes to play but Texas used seven unanswered to take a 65-51 lead into the locker room.

The Suns opened the third quarter the same way they started the first two with an outside shot, this time by Aaron Epps. The Legends responded with another big run 14-2 to take their largest lead of the night (+23) four minutes into the third. Despite a 20-point deficit, Northern Arizona finished the third strong on a 16-3 run to cut to a single-digit difference. Texas put up five unanswered and never looked back from their double-digit lead. ShawnDre Jones powered out 14 points in the final minutes but the Legends were locking in 63% to sweep the season series 4-0.

Payne's triple-double was the Legends' first of the season as he finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, 19 assists (2nd highest in franchise history), 2 steals, and a block. Moses Brown's career-high scoring (25) combined with 10 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season. Dakota Mathias hit 4-of-7 outside to add 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists while Josh Reaves tabbed 15 points and 6 rebounds. Antonius Cleveland and Jaylen Hoard matched for 14 points, 6 rebounds each and Cleveland handed out a game-high 3 blocks.

Epps grabbed a double-double for the Suns with 16 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. ShawnDre Jones finished the night with 21 points off the bench. Jalen Lecque added 15 followed by Matt Farrell and Tariq Owens with 13 apiece. Anthony Lawrence II and Ike Nwamu rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12 and 11 respectively.
