Long Island Nets Defeat Division Rival Raptors 905 in Sunday Matinee Game

LONG ISLAND - The Long Island Nets (17-21), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, defeated the Raptors 905 (18-21) 118-111 tonight at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Nets two-way guard Jeremiah Martin led the way for Long Island with a team-high 27 points, including 7-of-8 shooting from the charity stripe, to go along with five rebounds, five assists, a steal and a block in 38 minutes of action. Long Island guard/forward Justin Anderson finished the contest with 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 shooting from 3-point range while adding 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals in 38 minutes of play. He recorded his third double-double as a Net in the effort.

Brooklyn guard/forward Dzanan Musa, while on assignment with Long Island, finished the game with 18 points including 4-of-6 from 3-point range and added a career-high 14 rebounds in 36 minutes of play. The double-double was Musa's first recorded this season.

Raptors forward Paul Watson finished the contest with a game-high 34 points on 12-of-22 shooting from the field, 5-of-11 shooting from 3-point range and 3-of-3 shooting from the charity stripe to go along with four rebounds, two steals and two blocks in 37 minutes of action. Raptors 905 guard Matt Morgan provided clutch scoring off the bench, finishing with 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 shooting from the free-throw line while adding four rebounds and two assists in 38 minutes of play.

The Raptors came out swinging in the opening quarter, outscoring the Nets 13-7 through 4:33 of the first. Long Island, however, went on a 23-12 run over the remainder of the quarter, taking a 30-25 lead into the second.

Long Island carried its strong play over into the second, extending its lead to as many as 22 points with 4:32 left to play in the half. The Nets would go on to outscore the Raptors 35-27 in the second quarter, taking a 65-52 lead into the half.

The 905 came out looking to fight their way back into the game in the third, getting to within three points of Long Island with 2:20 left to play in the quarter. Following a late basket by the Raptors, the two teams entered the final quarter tied at 84.

The two teams came out in the fourth hungry for a victory, remaining tied with 8:10 left to play in the game. A 16-5 run by the Nets over the ensuing 2:56 of play proved to be the difference as Long Island closed out the game with a 118-111 victory.

The Nets will travel to Erie to take on the Bayhawks next on Tuesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. ET, while the Raptors 905 will travel to Windy City to take on the Bulls next on Wednesday, March 4, at 12 p.m. ET.
