PAWTUCKET, RI - A two-run home run by Bryce Brentz with two outs in bottom of the ninth inning gave the Pawtucket Red Sox (10-12) a 2-0 walk-off win over the Gwinnett Braves (14-9) in the final game of the four-game series on Sunday afternoon at McCoy Stadium.

Despite the loss, the G-Braves won the season series with the Red Sox, 4-2.

The game-winning runs came against Gwinnett reliever Caleb Dirks, who with two outs and the bases empty, gave up a single to Steve Selsky. Brentz then homered to left field on an 0-2 pitch.

The blast ended a well-pitched game by both teams, especially the starters.

G-Braves' left-hander Sean Newcomb, a native of Brockton, Massachusetts, produced his best start of the season in front of a large gathering of family and friends. Newcomb pitched 7.0 scoreless innings with one hit and two walks while tying a career high with 11 strikeouts. He had previously struck out 11 batters on June 16, 2015 with Advanced-A Inland Empire at Bakersfield.

A fine performance was also turned in by Red Sox right-hander Hector Velazquez, who pitched 6.0 perfect innings with four strikeouts. Velasquez retired 18 consecutive G-Braves without allowing a base runner. Edgar Olmos went 2.0 innings with two hits and three strikeouts. Robbie Ross, Jr. (W, 1-0) worked 1.0 inning with one walk and one strikeout.

Dirks (L, 1-1) worked 1.2 innings with two hits, two earned runs, one walk and one strikeout.

Gwinnett was held to just two hits on the day, as Ozzie Albies went 1-for-4 and Rio Ruiz went 1-for-3.

For the Red Sox, Selsky was 1-for-3 and Brentz was 1-for-4 with the homer and two RBIs.

After an off day on Monday, the Gwinnett Braves return to Coolray Field to begin a three-game homestand against the Durham Bulls on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Gwinnett will send right-hander Luke Jackson (0-1, 4.32) to the mound, while Durham will counter with left-hander Ryan Yarbrough (1-2, 3.65).
