Bats Tried to Rally Late, But Fall Short 5-1

ROCHESTER, NY- The Louisville Bats (9-14) fell to the Rochester Red Wings (12-9) by a score of 5-1 in the rubber match at Frontier Field on Sunday.

In his fifth appearance and longest outing of the year, the Bats right-hander Jackson Stephens (2-2, 6.66) threw six and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs on three hits, two walks, and recorded four strikeouts.

The Red Wings capitalized in the bottom half of the seventh with solo home runs by Matt Hague and John Ryan Murphy and a two-run home run by Nico Goodrum, giving the Red Wings a 4-0 lead.

The Red Wings added on to their lead in the eighth inning with a bases-loaded walk, making it 5-0.

The Bats tried rallying in the ninth with a Jesse Winker RBI single that scored Dilson Herrera from third, but that was the end of the comeback for the Bats.

José Berrî - os (2-0, 1.09) made the start today for the Red Wings, allowing two hits, two walks, and recorded seven strikeouts in eight scoreless innings.

The Bats will travel back home to start a three-game series with the Columbus Clippers for the third time this year. Projected starters for the game are right-handed pitcher Rob Wooten (1-1, 3.63) for the Bats and left-handed pitcher Shawn Morimando (1-3, 6.65) for the Clippers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm ET.
