PawSox Split Doubleheader with IronPigs

The Pawtucket Red Sox split a doubleheader in front of over 10,000 on Saturday night at Coca Cola Park in Lehigh Valley. The record stands at 35-22 for the first place PawSox, after the double-dip.

In the opener, the PawSox blew a 4-0 lead, falling 5-4. Derrick Mitchell got off to a hot start, going 3-4 with a double and 4 RBI for the Iron Pigs. Former Pawtucket infielder Tug Hulett knocked in the other Lehigh Valley run. Brandon Duckworth allowed 4 runs (3 earned) but didn't figure in the decision. Junichi Tazawa (3-2) was the loser. Tazawa surrendered the game winning hit to Mitchell. Tony Thomas went 3-3 with a run batted in for the Sox. Darnell McDonald had his first two hits in his rehab assignment (oblique).

In the nightcap, Lars Anderson singled in the eventual winning run with two outs in the sixth inning to push Pawtucket to a 7-6 victory. In the first innng Lars belted a two run homer. Alex Hassan added a two run homer of his own in the third. Pedro Ciriaco chipped in with a solo homer with two outs in the fourth. Mike Rivera added an RBI single. Tony Pena struggled through three innings, allowing 6 runs on 7 hits. Former Chicago Cubs All Star Mark Prior made his Pawtucket debut. Prior, who hasn't been in the Majors since 2006, had a walk and a strikeout in a scoreless inning of relief. Derrick Mitchell added to his big night with a grand slam. Overall, he went 4-7 with 8 RBI.

The series continues on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. Doug Mathis (3-3) faces Pat Misch (3-7).
