IN 1492...: The Rochester Red Wings tonight play a doubleheader against Columbus (Indians) following yesterday's rainout. The Wings and Clippers will play twice more after today before Norfolk (Orioles) comes to town for a 4-game series beginning Tuesday, its only regular-season visit to the Flower City.
a The Wings are coming off an 8-game roadtrip in which they went 3-5, losing 3 of 4 at Gwinnett (Braves) before splitting a 4-game series at Charlotte (White Sox).
RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY: Yesterday's rainout was the 4th for the Red Wings, the 3rd at Frontier Field. Only one of the previous 3 has been made up, an April 26 doubleheader vs. Syracuse (Nationals) that followed a washout 2 days before. The April 21 contest vs. Lehigh Valley (Phillies) will be made up as part of a July 8 doubleheader. The April 30 game at Buffalo (Mets) will be played as part of an August 26 doubleheader.
a The Red Wings played their first 16 games without a postponement due to weather, the longest such streak to start a season since 2002. The club's 18th game that year, an April 28 clash at Buffalo (Indians), was rained out and played as part of a doubleheader the next day.
SAD TO SEE YOU GO: The Red Wings and Yankees on Thursday concluded Baseball Month in Rochester. Twenty-nine games were played in 25 days at Frontier Field, including 2 local high school section championship contests. More than 90,000 fans came through the turnstiles and more than $9,000 was raised for 35 local not-for-profit organizations.
a The Red Wings today are celebrating the 80th birthday of Rochester's Mr. Baseball, Joe Altobelli. The Red Wings Hall of Famer played, managed, broadcasted, and worked in the front office for the franchise. His actual birthday was May 26.
a A 3-foot by 5-foot Baseball Month in Rochester logo, autographed by each of the 8 teams that played at Frontier Field, will be raffled off during today's games. The 2012 Toyota Camry, presented by Hoselton Toyota, will also be given away to one of the qualifying fans.
ROSTER NEWS: The Minnesota Twins yesterday reinstated right-handed pitcher Kyle Waldrop from the 15-Day Disabled List and optioned him to Triple-A Rochester. To make room for him on the Red Wings' 25-man roster, the Twins released righthander Daryl Thompson. Thompson went 1-5 with a 4.71 ERA in 9 starts.
APRIL SHOWERS BROUGHT MAY FLOWERS: The Red Wings closed out May with a 13-17 record, including an 8-8 mark beginning May 15. The Wings did play 7 more games in May than they did in April, but the numbers are, indeed, up:
April May
Record 9-14 13-17
Runs A0 103
Runs per game 3.4
Batting average .236 (175-for-743) .257 (255-for-993)
Home runs A0 15

a Sean Burroughs led the club in May with a .319 average (23-for-72). Pedro Florimon, Michael Hollimon, and Chris Parmelee led the team with 3 home runs. Danny Valencia led the squad with 11 RBI.
HOME, HOME ON THE RANGE: The Red Wings tonight return to Frontier Field, where they are 16-14, including a 12-10 mark as the home team. The Wings, meanwhile, are just 6-17 in true road games. The Rochester pitching staff has a 2.93 ERA (85 ER/261.0 IP) in 30 games along Morrie Silver Way compared to a 4.98 ERA (106 ER/191.2 IP) in 23 games outside the former Flour City.
a The Red Wings have logged 9 come-from-behind wins, 7 of which have come at Frontier Field.
EXTRA! EXTRA!: The Red Wings have recorded at least one extra-base hit in 27 consecutive games, their longest such streak in one season since the final 27 games of the 2010 campaign.
a The Wings last went at least 28 straight games with an extra-base hit in one season April 16-May 16, 2010, when they had a 30-game streak.
LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON: Rochester and Columbus are playing one another tonight while their parent clubs, the Twins and Indians, battle it out in Cleveland. This series marks the 5th of 13 days the Red Wings and their opponent will play while their parent clubs duke it out simultaneously. The list:
April 16-19 Empire State vs. Red Wings Twins vs. Yankees
June 2-3 Columbus vs. Red Wings Twins vs. Indians
June 25 Charlotte vs. Red Wings White Sox vs. Twins
July 16-19 Red Wings vs. 0 Orioles vs. Twins

CALLING ALL STARS: Online voting for the 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game is underway. The game, featuring the International League and the Pacific Coast League, will be played July 11 at Buffalo's Coca-Cola Field. Fans can vote by visiting RedWingsBaseball.com and clicking on the "Fan Zone" tab.
a Leading Red Wings candidates include Anthony Slama, owner of 9 saves, a 0.40 ERA, and a 17.0 consecutive scoreless innings streak; and Matt Carson, who leads Rochester with a .291 average, 50 hits, 19 extra-base hits, 15 doubles, 16 RBI, 75 total bases, and 23 runs. Slama has already matched Jim Hoey's team high of 9 saves from the 2011 Red Wings squad.
a Slama ranks 4th in the league in saves while leading the circuit with 14.51 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched. Carson is tied for 2nd in the league in doubles, one behind leader Cody Overbeck of Lehigh Valley.
