Paulino's Five RBIs Lift Hillcats, 7-3
July 23, 2015 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Lynchburg put on a power display with three home runs in a 7-3 victory over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Thursday night at City Stadium. Dorssys Paulino led the Hillcats with five RBIs, including a three-run blast, in the win.
RIGHT WHERE THEY LEFT OFF
Just one night removed from a five-home run game against Myrtle Beach, the Hillcats picked up right where they left off as Paul Hendrix smacked a solo shot over the left field wall to give the Hillcats a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
WILL NOT GO AWAY QUIETLY
In the top of the third, Myrtle Beach loaded the bases on three straight singles before Mark Zagunis drew a walk from Luis Lugo to tie the game at one. Cael Brockmeyer skied a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Chesny Young to give the Pelicans a 2-1 lead.
BARRAGE CONTINUES
A pitch hit Nellie Rodriguez and Mike Papi walked with one out in the fourth to set the stage for Dorssys Paulino, who squeaked a line drive just inside the left field foul pole for a three-run home run to regain the lead 4-2.
On the very next pitch, Eric Haase roped his seventh home run of the year over the left field wall for back-to-back home runs and a 5-2 Hillcats lead. The long ball gave the Hillcats back-to-back home runs on back-to-back nights, as Paulino and Sicnarf Loopstok accomplished the feat on Wednesday.
Paulino wasn't done driving in runs, however, as he added two more RBIs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Nellie Rodriguez reached first on a fielder's choice and Papi singled before Paulino lined a double down the left field line that scored both runners to extend the lead to 7-2.
Myrtle Beach plated one more run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Brown to bring the Pelicans within four, 7-3, but the score would stick for the remainder of the game
LOOK AT LUGO
Luis Lugo (6-9) finished just one out shy of a quality start, but earned his first win in his last four starts with his performance. Lugo went 5 2/3 innings and allowed two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out five. The win improved Lugo to 2-1 in his career against Myrtle Beach.
KEEPING UP WITH THE 'CATS
Clint Frazier's 11 game hit streak came to an end as he went 0-for-3 at the plate...However, Frazier's on-base streak was extended to 30 games as he drew a walk in the sixth...Paul Hendrix went 2-for-4 at the plate giving him four consecutive multi-hit games...With the three home runs, the Hillcats have recorded eight home runs in their last two contests...Lynchburg leads the league with 73 home runs, which is 18 more than the next closest team, the Carolina Mudcats, who have 55.
