LAST TIME OUT: Lynchburg tied a team record for the Hillcats era with five home runs in a 10-4 win over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Wednesday night...NELLIE RODRIGUEZ cranked out a pair long balls in his first two at-bats to lead the Hillcats to a victory and increase his league-leading total to 15 for the season...LUIGI RODRIGUEZ singled to lead off the game for the Hillcats and he did not have to wait long to touch home...NELLIE RODRIGUEZ pounded his Carolina League-best 14th home run of the year to give the Hillcats a 2-0 lead in the first frame...More runs came in the second inning as CLAUDIO BAUTISTA doubled to lead off the frame and was immediately driven home on a RBI triple by IVAN CASTILLO to put Lynchburg up three...PAUL HENDRIX drove in CASTILLO with a RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0 in favor of the Hillcats... Myrtle Beach sliced the Hillcats' lead in half in the top of the second inning on RBIs by PIN-CHIEH CHEN and VICTOR CARATINI to bring the Pelicans within two, 4-2. However, in the bottom of the frame, NELLIE RODRIGUEZ led off with a blast to left, his second of the game, which made it 5-2 Hillcats... Centerfielder CLINT FRAZIER extended both his hit and on-base streaks with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to expand the lead to 8-2... Myrtle Beach plated a run in both the top of the fifth and seventh innings on separate RBI singles by CARATINI to make the score 8-4, but the Hillcats weren't done punishing Pelicans hurlers...In the bottom of the seventh inning, DORSSYS PAULINO roped his first home run as a Hillcat over the left-center field wall, and SICNARF LOOPSTOK pounded the very first pitch he saw right at the scoreboard for back-to-back home runs and a 10-4 lead...D.J. BROWN picked up his eighth win of the season to take sole possession of second place in the Carolina League in wins behind MATT HEIDENREICH of Winston-Salem who leads the league with 11...BROWN pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits to earn the victory, his fourth in his last five starts.
VS. MYRTLE BEACH: Lynchburg is 4-8 against the Pelicans this year and will square off five more times in 2015...The Hillcats have scored 17 runs over their last five games against Myrtle Beach, which includes the 10-4 win last night... This marks the final visit to City Stadium for the Pelicans, who swept a four-game series in Lynchburg earlier this year...With a 15-hit performance last night, the Hillcats raised their batting average from .227 to .245 against the Pelicans this season, which is their third worst mark against any single opponent...IVAN CASTILLO has a team-best .361 clip (13-for-36) in the season series with one double, three triples and three RBIs while scoring eight runs in 10 games...Prior to last night, LUIGI RODRIGUEZ was the only Hillcats player to have a home run against the Pelicans...After a five-bomb night, now five active Hillcats have launched balls over the wall against the Pelicans...For the Pelicans, PIN-CHIEH CHEN is batting a team-high .393 with a pair of doubles and 10 runs scored in eight contests.
THE NUMBERS KEEP GROWING: With yet another dominant night at the plate last night, CLINT FRAZIER extended both his consecutive on-base streak to 29 games and his hit streak to 11...During that span, FRAZIER has seen his on-base percentage jump 37 points from .332 to .369...The streaks by FRAZIER are his longest of the season...He owns the two longest on-base streaks this season for the Hillcats as he also recorded a 19 game consecutive on-base streak earlier this season...NELLIE RODRIGUEZ has the third longest streak, reaching base in 16 straight games...Myrtle Beach's CHESNY YOUNG is currently on a 41-game on-base streak, which is a Carolina League record...The Indians No. 2 prospect seems to have found his swing once again as he has recorded a multi-hit game in six of his last seven contests...Over his last 11, FRAZIER has tallied a .475 batting average (19-40) with three home runs and six RBIs while raising his batting average from .255 up a full 25 points to .280...His efforts for the week of July 13-19 earned him Carolina League Player of the Week honors when he went 12-for-26 (.462) with a pair of home runs and four stolen bases.
CLEARED FOR LIFTOFF: Four different Hillcats recorded home runs last night against Myrtle Beach...NELLIE RODRIGUEZ smacked a pair of long balls for the second time this season in his first two at bats to give him a league-leading 15 on the season...RODRIGUEZ has recorded a hit in nine of his last 10 games and has tallied five home runs and nine RBIs in that stretch...Six of RODRIGUEZ'S 15 home runs have come in the month of July alone...CLINT FRAZIER destroyed a ball over the centerfield wall in the fourth inning to notch a three-run blast...The homer was FRAZIER'S 11th of the year placing him in a tie for second place with LUIGI RODRIGUEZ...In the seventh inning, DORSSYS PAULINO pounded his 22nd career home run and his first as a Hillcat, and on the very next pitch, SICNARF LOOPSTOK sent a laser off the scoreboard in left centerfield to give the Hillcats back-to-back home runs...With the barrage, the Hillcats recorded five home runs in a game for the first time since they accomplished the feat on May 28, 2013 against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in a game the Hillcats won 8-1.
CASTI-GO!: Hillcats infielder IVAN CASTILLO has been burning up the base paths with lightning speed over his last three games...In his last three contests, Castillo has recorded multi-hit games in each and is batting 7-for-12 (.583) with three triples, two RBIs and four runs scored...CASTILLO racked up a RBI triple in the second inning last night that gave him his league-leading 10th three-bagger of the year... Over the last two days, CASTILLO has surpassed teammate LUIGI RODRIGUEZ, who has eight triples of his own, as the league-leader in the category, but both fall short of NELLIE RODRIGUEZ who leads the league in overall extra-base hits with 46 on the year.
HIT PARADE RUNS INTO TRAFFIC JAM: Lynchburg has notched double-digit hits in four of its last five games but is 2-2 in those contests...In the middle game of a series against the Winston-Salem Dash, the Hillcats cranked out 10 hits but came up short in a 6-3 loss, which came on the heels of a 6-4 defeat in which Lynchburg had 12 hits...Lynchburg has lost 11 games this season when recording double-digit hits and is 26-11 when it reaches that benchmark...Two of those losses came against Myrtle Beach when the Hillcats had 12 hits on both May 2 and May 4 but dropped both contests.
RACKING UP THE INNINGS: Hillcats reliever ANTONIO ROMERO has been a vital reliever for the Hillcats in the second half...ROMERO is 1-1 with a 3.16 ERA this season and has made three spot starts for the team, but has spent the majority of his time out of the bullpen...On July 20, ROMERO entered the game in relief of DACE KIME, who left the game after allowing five runs in the first inning...ROMERO racked up five scoreless innings and allowed just four hits...With the stellar relief appearance, ROMERO has turned in a total of 14 2/3 straight innings of scoreless relief, the longest total by any reliever this season...Over his last five relief appearances, ROMERO has seen his ERA drop from 4.22 down to 2.93...Although he has posted great relief numbers for the Hillcats, ROMERO has just one save for the team, which came on the road at Salem on June 11 in a three-inning relief appearance.
