Patriots Crush Revolution

Somerset Patriots News Release


Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the York Revolution 12-1 before 6,319 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.

The Revolution took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Designated hitter Nate Espy tripled and scored on an RBI single by right fielder Justin Singleton.

The Patriots answered with two runs to take the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Second baseman Danny Garcia singled and right fielder Elliott Ayala doubled. Both runners scored on wild pitches to give Somerset a 2-1 lead.

Somerset extended the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Center fielder Mike Lockwood singled and scored on first baseman Alan Zinter 's RBI double. Catcher Travis Anderson followed with an RBI double to plate Zinter.

The Patriots added a run in the bottom of the fourth. Garcia singled, stole second base, and scored on an RBI double by Ayala.

The Patriots continued to roll with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The inning included a sacrifice fly by Lockwood and two RBI doubles by Zinter and designated hitter Josh Pressley to give Somerset a 9-1 advantage.

Zinter hit a solo home run (9) to lead off a three-run bottom of the eighth inning for the Patriots.

Patriots starter Brian Adams (10-1) picked up the win, allowing an earned run on four hits and five strikeouts in eight innings pitched. York starter Chris Steinborn (5-8) suffered the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings pitched.

The Somerset Patriots 10th Anniversary Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday evening with a 7:05 pm game against the York Revolution.
