Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots (1-0, 51-20) shutout the Long Island Ducks (0-1, 46-24) 2-0 Friday evening at TD Bank Ballpark in front of a season-high 8.038 fans.
In the bottom of the first inning right fielder Michael Burgess recorded a RBI groundout to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage.
Burgess blasted a home run (3) in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead.
Matt Zielinski earned the win (4-1) tossing six scoreless innings. John Brownell sustained the loss (6-2) hurling six frames while scattering two runs. Jon Hunton notched the save (19) throwing the final inning.
