
Skeeters Duo Signed to MiLB; Loux to Retire

SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters announced Friday that outfielder Joe Benson and relief pitcher Hunter Cervenka have been signed to Minor League contracts with the New York Mets (Double-A) and Atlanta Braves (Triple-A), respectively. The pair became the fifth and sixth players to be signed from the Skeeters this season. Sugar Land also announced the retirement of starting pitcher Shane Loux after an illustrious career in professional baseball.
Benson hit .200 in five games with Sugar Land. The former member of the Minnesota Twins scored three runs with a double and an RBI during his brief stint with the Skeeters. Cervenka led all pitchers with 13.5 strikeouts-per-nine innings and scattered four hits and a walk in eight games. The southpaw posted a 0.00 ERA over 8.0 innings of work.
Loux decided to hang up his spikes after an illustrious career in professional baseball. With Sugar Land this season, Loux posted a 4-3 record with a 2.92 ERA over 77.0 innings. The right-hander was a member of the 2012 San Francisco Giants World Series champion team and has been involved in baseball since 1997. A career 115 game winner, Loux fanned 1,035 batters in his 18 year career.
The Skeeters resume the second-half of the 2015 campaign this evening against Southern Maryland at Constellation Field.
