Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Camden, NJ - July 10, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (27-44, 1-0) defeated the Camden Riversharks (28-43, 0-1) 2-0 at Campbells Field in the opener of a three-game weekend series on Friday night. The Bluefish kick off the second half of the 2015 regular season on an extremely high note, extending their winning streak to three consecutive games overall.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Kameron Loe (1-2) overpowered Camden hitters all evening long en route to the victory, tossing seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits, walking one and striking out six. Camden Starting Pitcher Sean Gleason suffered the loss, pitching eight innings, giving up two runs (zero earned runs) on eight hits, walking two and striking out five.
Bridgeport cracked the scoreboard first in the eighth inning off Gleason, picking up two runs to take the 2-0 lead. Joe Poletsky led off the inning with a single to right field. Welington Dotel followed with a hit and run single, and Poletsky went first to third. Dotel then stole second base and the throw by Riversharks catcher Joe Gil was airmailed into center field, allowing Poletsky to score the game's first run and Dotel moved to third base on the error. It was Dotel's league-leading 21st bag swiped on the season. Camden's defensive struggles continued later in the inning as Jobduan Morales reached on a fielder's choice and a throwing error by first baseman Willis Otanez, and Dotel crossed the plate with an insurance run to double the lead.
The two-run cushion was then left in the capable hands of the Bluefish bullpen, and the combination of Steven Ames and Patrick Mincey combined to retire all six batters they faced, and the 'Fish were victorious in their first game back since the four day All-Star Break. Mincey registered his team leading ninth save of the season. Poletsky and John Alonso led the Bluefish offensive attack with two hits each.
The Bluefish return to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday, July 13th when they welcome in the 2015 First Half Freedom Division Champion Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the opener of four and a seven game homestand.
