Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - Midfielder Patrice Bernier was named MLS Player of the Week for weeks 13 to 15 on Monday. Bernier collected three assists in the Impact's 4-1 victory over Seattle, Saturday, in the club's first game at the new Stade Saputo.
Bernier set up Felipe's goal in the 18th minute and Andrew Wenger's goal in the 58th minute in brilliant fashion, on top of also earning an assist on Justin Mapp's game winner in the 51st minute.
"It's a nice honour," noted Bernier. "Winning brings with it good things, including some individual honours. The chemistry and cohesion with the team is getting better every game. The team is becoming more solidified on the pitch, which brings with it more constructive play and positive results. I hope to continue on this good run."
"Patrice is an important element to this team and the honour is well-deserved," said Impact head coach Jesse Marsch. "We are very happy for him. He's been a consummate professional since the start of the season."
Bernier was also named as the Videotron Player of the Game.
Bernier now leads the team in assists with four and is second in total points with eight in as many games played this season (572 minutes).
This is the first time that an Impact player has received this honour in MLS.
Following a close vote by the North American Soccer Reporters, Bernier was selected ahead of Fabian Espindola of Real Salt Lake, who scored twice in a 3-0 win versus Chivas USA, the Impact's next opponents; Wednesday at 10:30pm (ET) at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles.
The Impact will play its next game at Stade Saputo on Saturday, June 23, against Brian Ching, Andre Hainault and the Houston Dynamo. Season tickets are still available for Stade Saputo, as well as mini-season packages, via impactmontreal.com or by calling 514-328-3668.
