Montreal Impact Midfielder Patrice Bernier Voted MLS Player of the Week

NEW YORK (Monday, June 18, 2012) Montreal Impact midfielder Patrice Bernier was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 15 of the 2012 MLS season. Bernier notched three assists on Saturday in the Impact's 4-1 defeat of Seattle Sounders FC, the club's first home game at renovated Stade Saputo in Montreal, Quebec.
Bernier helped Montreal to an early lead in the 18th minute by collecting a long pass on the left flank, beating his defender and slotting the ball to Felipe, who placed a low shot in the right corner of the net. Bernier added another in the 52nd minute by finding in-stride Justin Mapp, who dribbled past the Sounders FC defense and made it to 2-0. After Seattle was reduced to 10 men in the 56th minute, the Canadian international set up one more Impact goal. In the 58th minute, Bernier trapped a clearance, turned and put rookie Andrew Wenger behind the defense for a simple finish and the final scoreline of 3-0.
Bernier has four assists in the last two games. Entering the game, Sounders FC were the only MLS team left with single-digit goals against (nine).
Bernier signed with the Montreal Impact on December 18, 2011, following a campaign with Danish Superliga club Lyngby BK in which he was named MVP for the first half of the season. This is Bernier's first MLS Player of the Week award, as well as first for a Montreal Impact player.
