RAPIDS HOST SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES ON WEDNESDAY: The Colorado Rapids return to Dick's Sporting Goods Park for the first of three consecutive home matches on Wednesday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m. MT against the San Jose Earthquakes. The Rapids, 6-7-1 (W-L-T) and fifth in the Western Conference, face the second place Earthquakes and could see the return of injured players including Omar Cummings and Conor Casey to boost the Rapids offense. The Heineken Lads Night Out package is available, which features 2 tickets, 2 beers, 2 hot dogs, and 2 scarves for $44. UNDER-18 TEAM TO FACE EMPIRE UNITED, SC UNITED BATTERY, DALLAS TEXANS IN PLAYOFFS: The Colorado Rapids Under-18 team has been placed into Group 4 of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs that begin next Monday in Frisco, Texas. The Rapids will face Empire United, South Carolina United Battery, and Dallas Texans in the group stage, with the schedule being announced later in the week; the winner of the group will advance to Finals Week held in Houston from July 16-23. The Rapids qualified for playoffs by finishing second in their division with a 6-3-5 record and 23 points (10-3-8 overall).
DEFENDER DREW MOOR SIGNS MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION: The Colorado Rapids announced last week that the club has re-signed defender Drew Moor, a standout defender and member of the Rapids' 2010 MLS Cup-winning team, to a multi-year contract. Moor, 28, has played 84 regular season games (all starts) since joining the team in a trade with FC Dallas on August 31, 2009, scoring seven goals, including two so far in 2012. On August 27, 2011 he set an MLS record for non-goalkeepers by playing the full 90 minutes in 69 straight regular season matches, and he earned Rapids Defender of the Year honors in 2010 and 2011.
RAPIDS SUPPORT HUNGER FREE COLORADO: The Colorado Rapids are supporting Hunger Free Colorado and other partners to bring awareness to the Summer Food Program by displaying a large plate, fork, and knife on the south-facing wall of the main building at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The Summer Food Program provides free, healthy meals to children while they are out of school for the summer where they may not have access to nutritious foods. COLORADO RAPIDS TO HOST BATTLE OF THE BADGES ON AUGUST 18: The Colorado Rapids and the City and County of Denver announced on Monday that the club will host the 1st Annual Battle of the Badges Charity Soccer Match between Denver Police and Denver Fire on Saturday, August 18 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The match will take place immediately after the Colorado Rapids take on Chivas USA at 7 p.m. MT, and a $25 ticket will give fans admission to both matches, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the teams' charities, the Denver Police Orphan's Fund and Friends of the Denver Fire Department. CONOR CASEY AND BRIAN MULLAN RETURN TO ACTION AGAINST VANCOUVER: Colorado Rapids player Conor Casey and Brian Mullan returned to action for the Rapids on Saturday, June 16 in Vancouver after being out for nearly a month each due to injury. Casey had pulled his right hamstring against Sporting KC on May 19, while Mullan sprained his left knee three days earlier against D.C. United. Omar Cummings, who has been out since May 6 with a left ankle sprain suffered against FC Dallas, did not make the trip but is available to make his return on Wednesday against San Jose. RAPIDS FACE SWANSEA CITY IN FRIENDLY ON JULY 24 : Tickets to the July 24 matchup between Colorado Rapids and English Premier League side Swansea City are on sale to the public and start at $22, and a special two-pack offer with the September 5 game against the Portland Timbers is available for $40. The Swans finished their 2011-12 Premier League season with an impressive 1-0 victory over 8th place Liverpool to give them a 12-15-11 record, good for 11th in the table.
