LAKEWOOD, NJ - David Parkinson threw six scoreless innings and Kyle Dohy closed down Lakewood's 1-0 win over Kannapolis on Sunday afternoon at FirstEnergy Park.
Danny Mayer homered in the second inning, a ball that just cleared the outfield wall in left field beneath the outfield picnic area. The ball wedged between signage tiers and would not have been a home run last year, prior to a ground rules change that stipulates any ball that hits above the padded wall, at eight feet high, is a home run.
The win puts the BlueClaws at 14-10 on the year and they took two of three in their series with Kannapolis (14-10). After a 1-4 start to the year, the BlueClaws have won 13 of their last 19 games.
Parkinson (3-0) allowed no runs on five hits over six innings, striking out five. It was the longest start of his professional career.
Kannapolis threatened in the seventh, leaving the bases loaded off Zach Warren, and again in the eighth, leaving two on off Julian Garcia.
Dohy came on and threw a scoreless ninth to earn his third save.
BlueClaws pitchers held the Intimidators hitless in 12 at bats with runners in scoring position. Kannapolis left 13 on base as the BlueClaws threw their fourth shutout of the season.
The BlueClaws head to Rome to open a three-game series with the Braves on Tuesday night. RHP Ramon Rosso (1-0) starts the series opener for the BlueClaws.
