Legends Avoid Sweep with 9-4 Victory over Power

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) - The Lexington Legends were able to avoid the three-game sweep by the West Virginia Power with a 9-4 victory in game three. The Power committed four errors in the first inning, allowing the Legends to score 7 runs on just three hits. Nolan Watson (2-1, 6.17 ERA) earned the win for the Legends while Domingo Robles (1-2, 3.86) was given the loss.

In the bottom of the first inning, Jeison Guzman reached on a leadoff walk then swiped second base. Nick Pratto then was walked by Robles. With runners at first and second, MJ Melendez reached on an error by the first baseman and Guzman scored while Pratto advanced to third on a catching error by the second baseman during the same play. Sebastian Rivero reached on a fielding error by the first baseman, plating Pratto and the Legends led 2-0. With Rivero at first and Melendez at third, the Power committed their third error of the inning, this time by the shortstop, plating another run for the Legends, and Gasparini was aboard at first. A two-run single by Vance Vizcaino cleared the bases then he was joined on the base path by Oliver Nunez, who also singled. With Vizcaino at second and Nunez on first, Travis Jones ripped a two-run double down the right field line and the Legends led, 7-0.

The Power scored their first run of the game in the second. Kyle Watson reached on a single to leftfield then scored when Ryan Hernandez double to right field, putting West Virginia on the board, 7-1.

In the third, Rodolfo Castro smacked his first home run of the season over the right field wall and the Power still trailed 7-2.

Seuly Matias and MJ Melendez hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning, furthering Lexington's lead, 9-2.

In the sixth, the Power's Mason Martin singled to right field. Martin advanced to third on a single by Oneil Cruz and scored on a passed ball, and the Power trailed 9-3.

West Virginia scored their final run of the game in the seventh. Chris Sharpe singled to left field then advanced to second when Lolo Sanchez was walked. Sharpe scored on a fielding error by Lexington's second baseman. The Legends were able to hold on to the 9-4 lead through the final two innings.

The Legends will have a scheduled off day tomorrow before they travel to Columbia to face the FireFlies. Game one of the series is May 1st at 7:05 p.m. The Legends will be back in Lexington on May 9 at 10:35 a.m. to take on the Delmarva Shorebirds.
