Drive Shut Down RiverDogs on Sunday

Greenville, SC - Behind three pitchers and a pair of late game triples on Sunday, the Greenville Drive secured their first series victory of the season with a 2-0 win over the Charleston RiverDogs in front of 6,748 fans at Fluor Field.

C.J. Chatham and Marino Campana each hit their first triples of the year in the eighth inning to break the stalemate. After Campana's three-bagger off Kyle Zurak (1-1) brought in Chatham, who led off the frame with his triple, Kervin Suarez plated Campana with a sacrifice fly to double Greenville's lead at 2-0.

Up until that point, the series finale was a pitcher's duel in its finest form, as the two teams combined for just eight hits across the first seven innings.

Drive (5-19) starter Kutter Crawford turned in another stellar performance, allowing only three hits across five innings and adding six strikeouts.

Crawford's counterpart, RiverDogs (11-13) righty Nick Nelson had an equally outstanding outing, throwing seven complete innings, striking out five Drive batters in the process.

Greenville's dominance on the mound didn't fade with Crawford's exit. Angel Padron (1-1) picked up the win after throwing three innings in relief.

Charleston had the Drive in tough spots on a couple occasions, including the top of the ninth when the RiverDogs had the go-ahead run at the plate with one out, but Devon Fisher closed the door to pick up the Drive's first save of the season.

Ricardo Cubillan was the lone Drive starter with two hits on the day.

After an off day Monday, the Drive embark on a seven-game road trip, beginning with a three-game set against the Delmarva Shorebirds, a Baltimore Orioles affiliate, on Tuesday night at 7:05. Right-hander Denyi Reyes (2-1, 3.32) takes the mound for Greenville, and he will face Shorebirds righty Michael Baumann (2-0, 2.37).
