Prince George Cougars News Release
PRINCE GEORGE BC- The Prince George Cougars earned their 42nd victory in a 5-3 triumph over the Vancouver Giants on Friday at the CN Centre. This win extends the Cougars' streak to 12 consecutive games with points.
Terik Parascak shone for the Cougars, delivering a stellar performance with five points, including two goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Zac Funk showcased his prowess by netting his 60th and 61st goals of the season, securing his position as the leading scorer in the CHL. Goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen was a formidable presence, making 30 saves.
The Cougars seized control early in the opening period when Parascak capitalized on a 5-on-3 power-play opportunity, giving Prince George a 1-0 lead at 7:50. Despite Vancouver's numerous scoring chances in the first period, Ravensbergen's outstanding performance kept the Cougars ahead 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Prince George extended their lead courtesy of Zac Funk, who notched his milestone 60th and 61st goals within two minutes of each other, pushing the Cougar lead to 3-0. However, the Giants managed to break through Ravensbergen in the final minutes of the second period, with Jaden Lipinski scoring for Vancouver, narrowing the gap to 3-1 by the end of the second period.
In the third period, Parascak continued his offensive prowess, scoring his second goal of the night at 4:30, assisted by Riley Heidt, increasing the Cougar lead to 4-1. Although the Cougars seemed to have the game under control, Cameron Schmidt of the Giants staged a comeback, scoring two impressive goals at 13:18 and 17:20, bringing Vancouver within one goal. However, the Cougars responded swiftly, as captain Hudson Thornton found the net just 32 seconds after Schmidt's second goal, sealing the victory with an insurance goal and securing a 5-3 win for Prince George.
