
Shantz Scores Twice in 6-3 Loss at Moose Jaw

Moose Jaw, Sask. - The Regina Pats ended their stretch of seven straight road contests with a 6-3 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday inside the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
Zack Shantz recorded his first career multi-goal game and Cameron Kuzma grabbed his first WHL point with an assist. Braxton Whitehead tallied his 15th of the season and Ewan Huet made 44 saves in the loss.
The Pats had a early lead in the first with Shantz opening the scoring. After the Warriors tied it 30 seconds later, they would lead 3-1 after one and 4-2 after 40 minutes of play.
Matthew Savoie led the way with three points (2G-1A), while Denton Mateychuk (1G-2A) and Atley Calvert (1G-2A) also had three-point efforts. Lynden Lakovic (1G-1A) and Jagger Firkus (2A) added multi-point games. Brayden Schuurman also scored and Jackson Unger made 25 saves in the win.

First Period
1-0 Pats at 2:49 - Zackary Shantz (7), assisted by Cole Temple // Temple won a battle behind the Warriors goal and sent a pass to Shantz in the slot and he made no mistake to open the scoring at 1-0.
1-1 Warriors at 3:19 - Matthew Savoie (26), assisted by Lynden Lakovic & Atley Calvert // The Warriors raced in with numbers and Savoie who was streaking in along the right-wing boards and fired home a shot from the circle to tie the game up at 1-1 just 30 seconds after the Pats opened the scoring.
2-1 Warriors at 14:20 - Brayden Schuurman (19), assisted by Lucas Brenton // Schuurman drove the net and squeaked it through the Pats netminder just over the goal line to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead.
3-1 Warriors at 19:12 - Denton Mateychuk (16), assisted by Kalem Parker & Jagger Firkus // From the right point, Mateychuk skated in and let a wrist shot fly that caromed around and eventually off a Pat player's skate and past Huet to give the Warriors a 3-1 lead late in the opening period.
Second Period
4-1 Warriors at 2:49 - Atley Calvert (44), assisted by Denton Mateychuk & Jagger Firkus (PP) // Mateychuk ripped a slap pass from the left point to Calvert who was alone in front of the Pats net and he redirected it past Huet to give the Warriors a 4-1 lead on the powerplay.
4-2 Pats at 4:42 - Braxton Whitehead (15), unassisted // Whitehead stole the puck from Unger who was stickhandling behind his net, and Whitehead wrapped it around into the empty cage to pull the Pats back to within a pair at 4-2.
Third Period
5-2 Warriors at 3:02 - Matthew Savoie (27), assisted by Brayden Yager & Denton Mateychuk (PP) // The Warriors won an offensive zone face-off and they worked it around to Savoie in the right circle area who one-timed it past Huet to extend the Warriors lead to 5-2.
6-2 Warriors at 11:54 - Lynden Lakovic (17), assisted by Atley Calvert & Matthew Savoie // Huet stopped the initial chance but as he did, he got a little out of position and Lakovic was able to bury the puck to make it 6-2.
6-3 Pats at 16:50 - Zackary Shantz (8), assisted by Cameron Kuzma & Corban Almen // Kuzma sent a nice pass to the front of the net for Shantz who fired home his second goal of the game to make it 6-3.
