Papierski plates 5, Espinal stifles Aces to take series finale

West Sacramento, Calif. - Home runs from catcher Michael Papierski and second baseman Isan Díaz, and an excellent start from right-hander Raynel Espinal (4-1) lifted the Sacramento River Cats (24-36) to a 10-5 victory over the Reno Aces (33-27) on Sunday.

Espinal missed bats with ease, striking out eight with four walks and just one hit (a solo home run) allowed in 5.0 innings. The 30-year-old now ranks tied for first in the PCL with 69 strikeouts.

Papierski finished his monster game with a Triple-A career-high five RBIs, finishing a triple short of the cycle with a 3-for-5 day.

For the second straight game Sacramento trailed 1-0 and Díaz rallied the River Cats to a tie.

A sun-aided double for Díaz set up right fielder Ka'ai Tom for a game-tying double, his first of three hits in the game. One pitch later, shortstop Arquímedes Gamboa gave Sacramento its first lead with a single.

The River Cats added three insurance runs in the fifth on two home runs. After first baseman Jason Krizan doubled to right field, Papierski and Díaz went back-to-back, with Díaz lining his third home run in 24 hours.

Sacramento has yet to announce their rotation for their series in Tacoma. Tuesday's TBD will take on left-hander Tommy Milone (2-0, 1.38) at 6:05 p.m. (PT). Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

Díaz finished the series against his former organization with a double, four home runs, five runs, six RBIs, and a 1.316 OPS.

Rehabbing San Francisco outfielder Steven Duggar had a solid day at the plate for Sacramento in his eighth rehab game, going 3-for-5 with two runs.
