(Rochester, NY)... Florida Panthers General Manager Dale Tallonannounced today that the club has recalled defenseman Joe Callahan from the Rochester Americans (AHL). In a related move, the Panthers have also reassigned fellow blueliner T.J. Fast to Rochester from the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones. Fast will join the Amerks this evening and can potentially make his debut in the red, white and blue as they take on the Lake Erie Monsters at 7:00 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena.

Callahan, 28, has appeared in two games with Florida this season, averaging 14:25 minutes per game. For his career in the National Hockey League, he has played in 21 games with Florida (2010-11), San Jose (2009-10) and NY Islanders (2008-09), registering three assists and four penalty minutes.

The Brockton, Massachusetts, native has played in 41 games with Rochester this season, scoring three goals with eight assists for 12 points and 12 penalty minutes. Callahan was drafted by Phoenix in the third round (70th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Fast, 23, arrives in Callahan's absence after recording 17 points (7+10) and 28 penalty minutes in 38 games with the Cyclones this season. Fast, a 2005 second-round selection (60th overall) of the Los Angeles Kings, is currently second among team defensemen and 16th among ECHL rearguards in overall scoring.

A third-year pro, the Calgary, Alberta, native was acquired by the Florida Panthers in an offseason trade in August that sent forward Graham Mink to the St. Louis Blues. The 6-foot-0, 185-pound blueliner has appeared in 64 American Hockey League contests over the last two seasons, all with the Peoria Rivermen.

Rochester's four-game road swing continues tonight with a 7:00 p.m. bout with the Lake Erie Monsters at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland. The matchup will be the third meeting in seven days between the North Division rivals and will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
