Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Kannapolis Intimidators started the second half of the South Atlantic League season with a walk-off win, 6-5, in 11 innings over the Delmarva Shorebirds at CMC- NorthEast Stadium on Thursday night. Leighton Pangilinan blasted the game-winning hit off the wall in left-center field to bring home Kevan Smith with the bases load and one out in the 11th.
Delmarva took the lead, 5-4, in the top of the 11th on an Intimidators two-base throwing error. Kannapolis tied the game in the home half of the inning after Tillman Pugh led off with a double to the top of the wall in left field and eventually scored on a Rangel Ravelo bases- loaded walk. Two batters later, Pangilinan ended the game.
Jason Van Skike (3-0) earned the win, allowing one unearned run in the 11th inning. Delmarva's Eric Beaulac (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs in the 11th after working a perfect 10th inning.
Ross Wilson led off the bottom of the first with his team-leading seventh home run of the season.
Delmarva's Wynston Sawyer put the Shorebirds in front with a two-run single in the fifth inning, but the lead was short-lived. Garis Pena connected on a two-out, two-run home run (4) in the bottom of the fifth to give Kannapolis a 3-2 edge.
Pugh led off the sixth with a double down the left field line. Mark Haddow singled him over to third, and Ravelo drove him in with an infield single to extend the Intimidators lead to 4-2.
The Shorebirds got back into the game with runs in the seventh and eighth innings, knotting the game 4-4.
Intimidators starter Scott Snodgress worked 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five and walking none in a no decision.
