LHP Walters Promoted to Winston-Salem

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 21, 2012) - The Chicago White Sox have promoted left-handed pitcher Blair Walters from the Class A Kannapolis Intimidators, to the Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem Dash today. Walters is coming off a first half in which he earned a spot in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game. In a corresponding move, outfielder Bill Rice has been activated off the disabled list.

Walters, 22, started a team-high 13 games for Kannapolis, going 3-3 with a 2.88 ERA (23 ER/72 IP) and 69 strikeouts and only 18 walks. He ranked sixth in ERA, tied for eighth in strikeouts, and ninth in innings pitched through the first half of the SAL season. Walters earned SAL Pitcher of the Week honors for May 14-21 after working seven shutout innings of one-hit ball with nine strikeouts against Lexington on May 17.

The White Sox selected Walters in the 11th round of the 2011 draft out of the University of Hawaii where he pitched exclusively out of the bullpen for two seasons. He made his professional debut last season with Advanced Rookie Great Falls and was named Pioneer League Pitcher of the Year, going 9-0 with a 4.03 ERA, leadings the PL in wins, ranking fourth in ERA and fifth in opponent average (.272) while leading the Voyagers to the league championship.
