PREVIEW: After a 28-41 finish in the first half (fifth place), the Delmarva Shorebirds open the second half on the road against Kannapolis. After an 8-21 month of May, the Shorebirds are 7-9 so far in June. Tonight is the first of 10 meetings with Kannapolis in the second half. The Shorebirds will make one more trip to CMC-Northeast (August 13-15).
DELMONICO NAMED MVP OF ASG: On Tuesday, Nicky Delmonico was named the SAL All-Star Game MVP by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the Northern Division's 3-2 win over the Southern Division in the 53rd annual mid-season classic. Delmonico is the second Shorebirds player in franchise history to win the SAL All-Star Game MVP (Trey Salinas, 2002).
17 OF NEXT 22: When the Shorebirds return home on Monday, 17 of their next 22 games will be played at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Shorebirds have a nine-game homestand against Hagerstown and West Virginia (June 25-July 3) and an eight-game homstand (July 10-17). Their only trip is to Hickory from July 4 through July 8.
LOUICO JOINS ROTATION: Williams Louico is scheduled to join the rotation for the second half in the spot of Justin Moore, who was released by the Orioles on June 16. Although he has not started this season, Louico made 38 starts in the DSL over the last four years.
ONE NEW POSITION PLAYER: Local product (Reisterstown, MD) Austin Knight joined the Shorebirds officially on Tuesday. Knight spent the last two seasons with Aberdeen (.218, 117 games).
FINAL 27 INNINGS OF HALF: The Shorebirds lost the final three games of the first half to Kannapolis at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The 'Birds offense managed only three run scoring innings (five total runs) in the final three games. The three Kannapolis starters (Scott Snodgress, Myles Jaye and Erik Johnson) allowed a combined nine hits in 17.2 innings.
WEBB'S WALKS: Brenden Webb walked all five times to the plate in the final game of the half (June 17). He increased his total to 55, which ranks second in the SAL. He has 11 walks in his last five games played. Webb is on pace to break the single season franchise record of 97, set by Tim DeCinces in 1997. Webb's 75 walks last season are fifth most in franchise history.
