EVERETT, Wash. - The Silvertips win their 11th straight home game as Max Patterson, Connor Dewar and Wyatte Wylie all record multi-point games, along with a 37-save performance from goaltender Max Palaga, allowed the Everett Silvertips to defeat the visiting Kamloops Blazers, 5-1, before 4,723 at A.O.T.W. Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Everett rookie-forward Conrad Mitchell deposited his first career WHL goal at 9:19 in the second period, assisted by fellow rookie forward Jalen Price and Dewar. The Tips have now earned a win or a point in 18 of the past 19 games (16-1-1-1), sitting atop the Western Conference with 64 points, seven behind the Prince Albert Raiders for most in the WHL.
"I'm proud of the first 40, and more importantly being able to get two of three games this weekend says a lot about our group," Head Coach Dennis Williams said.
UP NEXT: The Tips hit the road and head north to take on the Kelowna Rockets on Jan. 9 at 7:05 p.m., but return home the following Friday, Jan. 11, to face off against the Tri-City Americans at 7:05 p.m. (1380 AM / 95.3 FM / Tips App / WHL Live).
The Silvertips came out blazing hot, as they scored two goals in the first nine minutes of play. Zack Andrusiak put Everett up 1-0 with a goal at 7:01, deflecting a Christiansen backhand shot from the slot off a fed from Patterson.
The Silvertips scored again at 8:44, which put them up 2-0, as Wylie threw the puck on net from the point after a tape-to-tape pass from rookie blue-liner Ronan Seeley. Patterson also recorded his second assist of the night on the play.
Palaga, a former Kamloops Blazer, was perfect in the opening frame; stopping 15 of 15 shots. The Tips were able to land 16 shots on Blazers goaltender Dylan Garand.
The Silvertips tacked on another three goals on 18 shots in the second, extending their lead to 5-0 after two.
The first penalty of the game, committed by Kamloops' forward Zane Franklin, came at 6:20 into the second and eventually led to the first power play goal of the game. Dewar potted his 28th goal on the season at 7:51 off a wrister from the far circle off a feed from Wylie from the blue line.
Mitchell recorded his first goal of his WHL career at 9:19 into the second. Price finessed a pass in front of the crease, leaving Mitchell a tap-in goal. Dewar also picked up an assist on the play, giving him a multi-point game.
Defenseman Gianni Fairbrother blasted a rocket from the point past Garand's left shoulder, almost popping his water bottle off the net at 17:52 in the third. Forward Bryce Kindopp and defenseman Sahvan Khaira were credited assists on the play.
Blazers forward Brodi Stuart cut the Tips lead to 5-1 with a power play goal at 13:48 in third off assists from defenseman Quinn Schmiemann and former Silvertip forward Orrin Centazzo.
