Game Day Preview: Pats Finish Three in Three Weekend at Home to Seattle Sunday

The Regina Pats (12-26-1-1) will play their third game in as many days on Sunday when they return to home ice to take on the Seattle Thunderbirds (11-20-4-0). Puck drop is at 4:00 p.m. at the Brandt Centre. The Pats are coming off a tough 1-0 loss in Swift Current on Saturday night. The Thunderbirds were last in action on Friday in Brandon and lost 7-3. Today is the first and only meeting between the Pats and Thunderbirds during the 2018-19 season. Today's game can be heard with Bennett Dunlop Ford Pats Hockey starting at 3:35 p.m. on 620 CKRM .

The Lead Up: Pats can't solve Hofer in 1-0 loss to Broncos Saturday

The Regina Pats outshot Swift Current 46-24 on Saturday night, but fell 1-0 on the road to the Broncos. In the first, the Broncos got the game's lone goal on the powerplay at 10:31. Carter Chorney put one home after the puck hit the post behind Max Paddock to give Swift Current the 1-0 lead. The Pats outshot Swift Current 10-5 in the first, 19-12 in the second and 17-7 in the third, but Broncos goaltender Joel Hofer stopped all 46 shots and the Broncos held on for the 1-0 win. The Pats outshot Swift Current 46-24, the powerplay was oh for three, the penalty kill was four for five and Max Paddock made 23 saves in a third star performance.

Head to Head

The Pats and Thunderbirds will meet for the first and only time today at the Brandt Centre. It will be Seattle's first visit to the Brandt Centre since the 2017 WHL Championship series. Regina and Seattle have split the last four regular season meetings, with the home team winning each time. Both teams enter Sunday with 26 points in the standings, the Thunderbirds have played five less games however and are looking to snap a seven-game losing streak. The Pats enter Sunday having lost three in a row but are 3-2-1-0 since the Christmas break.

Paddock Keeps Rolling

Pats goaltender Max Paddock had another quality start on Saturday in Swift Current, allowing just one goal on 24 shots. The 18-year-old has been outstanding since the Christmas break, going 2-2-1-0 with a 2.20 goals against average and a .931 save percentage. Paddock earned two wins over the Brandon Wheat Kings right after the break and a single point in Saskatoon on Friday. Thanks to his five quality starts in a row, Paddock's goals against average has dropped to 3.63 and his save percentage is up to .889.

One Goal Games

The Pats have essentially played in six one goal games since the Christmas break, going 3-2-1-0 in that stretch. The lone game that ended in a two-goal margin was against Prince Albert on New Years Day, but that was because of an empty net goal with one second left on the clock in the third. The Pats earned back to back 3-2 victories over Brandon in their first two games of the second half. Then beat Prince Albert 2-1. Since then, the Pats lost 5-3 to P.A. with the late empty netter, 2-1 in overtime in Saskatoon Friday and then 1-0 last night in Swift Current. Regina has scored 12 goals in six games since the break and given up 13, the powerplay has gone three for 21 (14.3 per cent) and the penalty kill 22 for 27 (81.2 per cent). Both Austin Pratt and Robbie Holmes lead the Pats offensively with two goals and an assist in the six games since the break.
