Pair of Homers Lift Lakewood over Power

(Lakewood Township, NJ) - The West Virginia Power lost 2-1 on Sunday to the Lakewood BlueClaws at FirstEnergy Park. The BlueClaws hit two solo home runs en route to sweeping the Power in the four game series.

Lakewood opened the scoring with a solo home run by Jiondido Tromp in the second inning. West Virginia tied the game in the top of the fifth on a two-out, run scoring single by Tito Polo. The Claws regained the lead in the sixth on a solo home run by Jose Pujols.

West Virginia put the tying runner aboard in each of the last three innings, but could not even the score. The Power went 1-11 with runners in scoring position and stranded ten men on the paths.

The two runs were all Mitch Keller (3-2) would allow over seven innings of work. The right-hander struck out six and did not walk a batter in the loss. Franklyn Kilome worked five and two-thirds for the BlueClaws, but did not factor in the decision. Zach Morris (2-1) earned the win after recording one out and was the pitcher of record when Pujols hit his home run. Luis Morales faced four batters in the ninth for his second save.

The Power were swept in a four game set for the first time since June 2014.

West Virginia travels to Salisbury, Maryland, to start a three game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds on Monday evening. Logan Sendelbach will start for the Power while the Shorebirds counter with Reid Love. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M. at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
