PREVIEW: The Delmarva Shorebirds had an opportunity to win the series against Greensboro last night, but lost a 1-0 contest for the first time this season. Delmarva still has a chance to win the series today in the final game of the set. Delmarva still plays Greensboro six more times in the first half of the year, but all six games are in Greensboro. The Grasshoppers are the Class A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins. Since opening the season 4-6, Delmarva has posted a 15-9 record. Delmarva is led offensively by Yermin Mercedes and Ryan Mountcastle. Mercedes has 14 hits in his last 27 at bats and leads the South Atlantic League with a .376 batting average. Mountcastle has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 and has four multi-hit games over his last seven contests. Greensboro has the lowest team batting average in the circuit, has scored the fewest runs, and has the fewest strikeouts from their pitching staff.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: Right-hander Steven Farnworth takes the hell for Greensboro in the series finale. Farnworth made his first seven appearances of the season out of the bullpen before starting his last two in a row. He has three saves to go along with his 0-1 record and 3.20 ERA. He was drafted in the 23rd round of the 2014 MLB First Year Player Draft from Cal Poly Pomona.
LAST GAME QUICK HITS: After a 1:17 delay before the game started, the Shorebirds got another stellar outing from Brian Gonzalez. He took his first loss of the season by allowing the game's only run in the sixth inning. The Shorebirds left 10 runners on base and had chances to score in every inning except the seventh. Alex Murphy extended his hitting streak to six games and on-base streak to 11 straight. Ademar Rifaela reached base safely in his 14th consecutive game.
