Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The BlueClaws won their sixth straight game Sunday, hitting a pair of solo home runs in holding off West Virginia 2-1 at FirstEnergy Park.
Jiandido Tromp and Jose Pujols went deep for the BlueClaws with Pujols, who hit his league-leading eight home run, breaking a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning.
For the BlueClaws, it was their first six-game winning streak since July 6-12 of 2013, when they won six straight from Greensboro, Rome, and Hickory. They improved to 15-20 on the year while West Virginia fell to 18-17. Additionally, the BlueClaws swept their first four-game series since August of 2011 at Delmarva.
Lakewood's bullpen was sharp again, combining for 3.1 scoreless innings in relief of starter Franklyn Kilome, who allowed just one run over 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts. Zach Morris got one out, with Edgar Garcia throwing two scoreless innings and Luis Morales getting the last three outs for his second save.
The BlueClaws got on the board in the 3rd inning on a solo home run by Jiandido Tromp, his fourth of the year. The lead lasted one inning, as Tito Polo tied the game in the top of the fifth with an RBI single off Franklyn Kilome. Then Pujols went deep in the sixth to complete the scoring.
Morris, who got one out, earned the win, improving to 2-1 on the year while Mitch Keller, who gave up two runs over seven innings, fell to 3-2.
The BlueClaws wore Superman jerseys in the game with West Virginia wearing Batman jerseys. The teams will square off in the custom-uniforms on May 30th in West Virginia.
The BlueClaws open a three-game series in Hagerstown on Monday night. RHP Jose Taveras (1-2) starts for Lakewood opposite Hagerstown RHP Andrew Lee (2-0).
