Intimidators Outhit Suns, But Fall in Wallk-Off

HAGERSTOWN, MD - For the second time in three days the Kannapolis Intimidators were walked off by the Hagerstown Suns. During Sunday's matinee at Municipal Stadium, Kannapolis (15-20) saw a three-run lead disappear late and fell in 6-5 loss to Hagerstown (23-12).

Despite outhitting the Suns, 8-7, the Intimidators bat's fell silent following a two-run rally in the fifth. Over the final four innings Kannapolis did not record a hit and were held to just three walks.

Hagerstown's bullpen silenced the Intimidators offense with strong relief work from Mick VanVossen and Luis Torres. Torres (2-1) was perfect in his two innings of work and earned his second win of the season.

The Intimidators bullpen failed to hold onto a 5-2 lead when the Suns broke through for three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Brannon Easterling was let down by his defense when shortstop Johan Cruz committed his second error of the series opening the door for two more runs to come in during the seventh that tied the game at five.

The scoring started for the fourth straight game with a home run. Suns second basemen Max Schrock led off the bottom of the first with his second home run of the series staking the Suns to an early 1-0 lead.

In the top of the second inning, Danny Mendick got the Intimidators on the board with an RBI infield single. Mendick turned in his second straight multi-hit game since rejoining Kannapolis going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The Intimidators put runs on the board in four out of the first five innings. Their biggest rally coming in the fifth. Cody Daily started the rally with a single to right beginning a string of five straight Intimidators to reach base safely. Antonio Rodriguez followed with a walk which chased Suns starter Mathew DeRosier from the game. Rodriguez paced the Intimidators offense going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a double.

Landon Lassiter had the big hit of the inning, slicing a single to left to bring in two runs with two out in the inning. Lassiter was not retired during the game going 1-for-1 with two RBI and three walks.

Taylore Cherry took his first loss of the season when Matt Page looped a single to left to bring home Ian Sagdal for the winning run.

The loss gives the Suns the series win, and Hagertown a 3-to-4 advantage in the seasons head-to-head matchups.

The Intimidators will head home for a standalone three game home stand against the Greensboro Grasshoppers beginning Monday night. Kannapolis will send RHP Chris Comito (0-2, 9.39) to the mound against Greensboro's RHP Jordan Holloway (0-1, 16.20 ERA) with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. Monday night will be belly buster night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System, fans can get an all-you-can-eat wrist band at the main concession stand for just $10.
