Winston-Salem Dash News Release
Woodbridge, VA - Dash shortstop Greg Paiml was solid at the plate and even more spectacular in the field in leading Winston-Salem (31-26) to a 3-2 win over Potomac on Wednesday night at Pfitzner Stadium. Paiml matched a season-high with three hits, including two doubles, a home run and two RBI and made three stellar defensive plays among his six defensive assists to help the Dash even the three-game series at a game apiece.
Dash starter Daniel Hudson (4-2) was masterful in holding Potomac to two runs on five hits and matched a season-high with eight strikeouts to earn the win. Winston-Salem closer Miguel Socolovich danced out of trouble in the eighth inning and rain brought the game to an end with the Dash threatening in the top of the ninth.
The Dash took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when catcher Adam Ricks led off with a single against Potomac starter Bradley Meyers. After back-to-back strikeouts, Paiml lined a two-out RBI double into the left field corner that scored Ricks. Winston-Salem maintained their one-run advantage until the bottom of the sixth inning when Dan Nelson hit a two-out solo home run off Hudson that knotted the score at one.
In the eighth inning, Paiml blasted a solo home run off newly inserted reliever Cole Kimball to put the Dash back in front 2-1. Later in the inning, third baseman Brent Morel hit a hard grounder that was misplayed by Nationals third baseman Stephen King, which allowed Morel to reach second base. The two-out error proved costly as right fielder Christian Marrero followed with an RBI single to give Winston-Salem a 3-1 lead.
Potomac looked poised to even the score or even take the lead when they loaded the bases with no outs against Dash closer Miguel Socolovich in the bottom of the eighth inning. Dan Nelson registered an RBI groundout to bring the Nationals within a run and left runners on the corners with one out. Socolovich struck out Chris Marrero for the second out and Paiml made a stellar defensive play to rob Michael Burgess of a potential game-tying hit up the middle to end the inning.
Winston-Salem mounted a threat in the top of the ninth inning when Ricks led off with a walk and left fielder Joe Persichina followed with a bunt single. On the play, Kimball's throw to first ended up in right field, which put runners on second and third base with no outs. Following the play, the rain, which had been falling lightly for four innings, intensified and the game was halted. After a 33 minute delay, the game was called.
Socolovich worked a full inning and was awarded with his third save of the season. Kimball (0-3) went an inning out of the bullpen and allowed two runs on two hits to suffer the loss. Meyers tossed seven innings and held the Dash to one run on six hits with five strikeouts, but did not factor in the decision.
The Dash and P-Nats will conclude this three-game series on Thursday night at Pfitzner Stadium. Winston-Salem will hand the ball to RHP Anthony Carter (4-3, 4.45), while Potomac is expected to turn to RHP Jeff Mandel (6-2, 3.05). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The Dash return home on Friday, June 12 when they welcome the Wilmington Blue Rocks to Wake Forest Baseball Park for a three-game series. Single-game tickets are also available for games at Wake Forest Baseball Park and can be purchased online at www.wsdash.com or by calling the Dash office at (336) 714-2287.
