Frederick Keys News Release

They don't call them the Cardiac Cats for nothing. Frederick scored four eighth inning runs to lead by one but Lynchburg came from behind late for a second consecutive night, upending Frederick 7-6 on Wednesday night at City Stadium.

The Keys lost the game even though they outhit Lynchburg 16-5.

Six of the hits came in Frederick's momentous eighth inning rally.

The Keys got RBI doubles from 1B Robbie Widlansky, RF Billy Rowell and DH Wally Crancer to tie the game at 5-5. Then with two down in the inning, CF Matt Angle singled home Crancer with his fourth hit of the night to put the Keys atop. Crancer, starting for the second time in June was 3-for-4 himself.

But Lynchburg had the last laugh.

3B Pedro Alvarez walked and then scored on an RBI-double by 1B Matt Hague to tie the game. With two outs in the inning a fielding error by 2B Bobby Stevens allowed the winning run to score.

Frederick committed three errors leading to three unearned runs. The Keys also walked three batters and all scored.

RHP Kenny Moreland made his Frederick debut in 2009 retiring the first 13 batters he faced.

Frederick sends LHP Brian Matusz looking to end a five-game losing streak to Lynchburg. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. on The Keys Baseball Network.

The Keys return home for a weekend series beginning with a doubleheader at 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 12th. All three games will have fireworks to follow.
