Kinston Indians News Release
Kinston's Eric Berger tossed 6 1/3 quality innings, allowing just one run on two hits to earn his fourth win of the season and the second straight victory for the K-Tribe, defeating Myrtle Beach 4-1 tonight from BB&T Coastal Field.
Berger (4-4) gave up the lone run in the first on two Pelican hits, but then held Myrtle Beach hitless for the next 5 1/3 innings. Kinston relievers Travis Turek and Dallas Cawiezell held serve from the K-Tribe bullpen, allowing just two hits in 2.2 innings of work. Cawiezell picked up the two-inning save, his team leading seventh of the season.
Kinston's bats were held at bay through the first six innings as Pelicans starter Jose Oregano pitched six strong, allowing no runs on just three hits, while striking out six. Oregano couldn't figure in the decision, however, after his bullpen gave up the lead for him in the seventh.
Alex Castillo (1-for-4) hit a one-out double in the seventh off reliever Michael Broadway (0-5), and then Lucas Montero (1-for-4) drove him in with an RBI single. Montero then stole second and scored on a two-out Tim Fedroff (2-for-5) RBI single.
Lonnie Chisenhall (0-for-3) saw his eight-game hit streak come to a halt, but he did reach base twice via the hit-by-pitch and scored a run in the eighth on a Matt Brown (1-for-4) RBI single.
Fedroff completed the scoring with another RBI single to drive in Nate Recknagel (2-for-4)
Kinston has now won six of eight from Myrtle Beach and will try to finish off the sweep of the Pelicans tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. The K-Tribe will send Russell Young to the mound for the start.
