Kinston Indians News Release
Extra, Extra! - The K-Tribe rode a solo home run by Adam Davis in the top of the 10th inning to a 3-2 victory in 10 innings last night. It was the first extra inning win by Kinston this season. The K-Tribe is now 1-4 in extra inning games this season.
Davis Does It - Speaking of Kinston's utility man Adam Davis, the University of Florida product has the hottest bat on the K-Tribe team. Davis has a four game hitting streak going and is 8-for-20 in his last seven games, raising his average from .125 to .180 during that stretch!
Finally We Found the One! - After last nights 3-2 win, Kinston "improves" to 8-17 in one run games this season. 11 of those one run losses came between May 9th and June 9th.
Number 9, Number 9 - Kinston is 9 games under .500 for the first time in more than five seasons. Winston-Salem's four game sweep of the K-Tribe this past weekend was the first time since July 28-31, 2005 in Wilmington that a team swept the Indians in a four-game set. The sweep was also the first of any kind that Winston-Salem has handed Kinston since July 3-5, 2005.
The Stars Are Out! - Lonnie Chisenhall, Cord Phelps and Eric Berger are Carolina League All-Stars and will head to the Golden State to take on the California League All-Stars on June 23rd. Each player was drafted in 2008.
May 9th to June 8th, a Baseball Tragedy - On May 9th the K-Tribe had just won a season high four straight games and stood atop the Carolina League Southern Division by two games with a 17-13 record. Then the K-Tribe suffered through a season high eight game losing streak (nine after a suspended game was picked up later). Five of Kinston's last six losses in the streak were by one run with the other loss coming by two runs in extra innings. The K-Tribe finished the month of May with an 11-17 record, tied with Myrtle Beach for the worst record in the month. After winning 4 of 5 games and pulling within ½ of first place in the Southern Division, Kinston went 1-6 to begin June. All together Kinston put together a 6-21 record from May 9th to June 8th.
