WOODBRIDGE, Va- With an ominous storm approaching from the west, the P-Nats and Winston-Salem Dash were on the clock to play as many innings as possible before the torrential downpours would naturally suspend play. It has been par for the course to see greens, yellows, and reds on the radar when the P-Nats are set to square off with a Carolina League opponent this season, but the two teams were ready for a quick contest.

Brad Meyers and Daniel Hudson went pitch for pitch, working quickly and efficiently while the Potomac staff kept one eye on the weather. The storm eventually came as the rain came down like gangbusters, flooding the field and pushing visibility down to near zero. Unfortunately for the P-Nats, the Dash held a one-run advantage in the top of the ninth inning when the sheets of rain started to fall. With the score 3-2, the umpires deemed the field unplayable and the Dash walked away with a rain-shortened victory from Pfitzner Stadium.

Meyers had been a hard-luck hurler the last month, giving up only four runs in his last five starts without notching a win and unfortunately picking up two losses. The 3-2 loss for the Nats will be seven straight starts for Brad Meyers in which the game has ended in a one-run affair with the P-Nats going just 2-5 in those contests. He did not get the loss in this contest, however, as Meyers tossed seven innings, giving up just one run on five hits. The righty struck out five without walking a batter to lower his Carolina League leading ERA to 1.66.

Dash starter Daniel Hudson threw darts for seven plus innings, striking out eight and allowing just a solo home run to Dan Nelson in the bottom of the sixth inning.

With the rain coming down harder and a delay of play imminent, Hudson had a 1-0 lead thanks to a Greg Paiml RBI double in the top of the third, but Nelson blasted his round tripper with two outs in the inning to tie the game at one apiece.

The rain abated for a while which allowed the game to continue. In the top of the eighth, Cole Kimball came on in relief of Meyers. Kimball has been lights-out for the P-Nats as of late, but he served up a leadoff home run to Paiml to break the tie. On the day, Paiml was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run and two RBI. Christian Marrero would add an RBI single to make the score 3-1 in favor of the visiting Dash.

The P-Nats would respond in the bottom half of the frame as the team loaded the bases with nobody out. Nelson hit an RBI groundout to make it 3-2, but Miguel Socolovich struck out Chris Marrero and coaxed Michael Burgess into a groundout to end the threat.

That's where the game would end as the rain began to pour. The two teams have split the first two games of this three-game set and will play the rubber match tomorrow with first pitch at 7:05 ET.
