Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs announced on Thursday that the contract of right-handed pitcher Carlos Guevara has been sold to the San Diego Padres organization. Guevara will join the Padres' Class AA affiliate in San Antonio.
Guevara appeared in 11 games for the Saltdogs this season, compiling an 0-1 record and a 4.22 ERA with six saves in as many chances. The righty tossed 10.2 innings, walking five batters and striking out 11. He'll be rejoining the organization with which he made his major-league debut last season. Guevara appeared in ten games for the Padres in 2008, going 1-0 with a 5.84 ERA. In San Antonio, one of his teammates will be former Saltdogs infielder Anthony Contreras, who was acquired by the Padres in June of 2008.
Guevara becomes the second member of the 2009 Saltdogs to be acquired by a major league organization. Right-handed pitcher Angel Castro was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies organization just hours before the '09 season began. In all, Lincoln has seen 23 players signed by major league organizations since the inaugural 2001 season.
The Saltdogs return home from a week-long road trip on Tuesday, June 23, when they host the El Paso Diablos. For more team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
