Pensacola Pelicans News Release
The Pelicans picked up a win tonight, 3-1, to leave Shreveport with a series split. Dane DeValk started the game for the Pels and earned the win with the help of Ulysses Roque and Hunter Davis.
The Pelicans scored all three of their runs in the second inning, and it was all the support the pitching staff needed. Dane DeValk went six innings for the Pels, allowing just one run and one walk, striking out five batters. Ulysses Roque pitched two innings of shutout ball, striking out one and yielding two hits. Hunter Davis picked up his eighth save of the year, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth.
After a scoreless first, Luis Guance led off the second with a single, one of six the Pelicans would pick up in the inning. Marcos Rodriguez knocked a ball to right, and Chase Burch followed with a RBI single to left-center. Luis Bautista hit a ball to centerfield, moving Burch to third. With runners at the corners, Aaron Cunningham balked, scoring Burch and moving Bautista to second. Justin Humphries followed with a single through the left side. With two out, Jimmy Mojica scored Bautista with a base hit between the third baseman and shortstop.
The three to nothing Pelicans lead would stand until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Medina came in to score on a Torres RBI single. Roque and Davis finished up the game for the Pels, as Pensacola claimed victory, 3-1.
The Pelicans return home tomorrow for a fun filled week of home games. Friday is Family Camp-Out Night, Saturday is the Bride Bash, Sunday is Father's Day at Pelican Park, and Monday is a Mutt Monday. Tuesday, the Famous SD Chicken comes to Pelican Park, and the fun continues throughout the week. Fans can purchase tickets online at www.pensacolapelicans.com.
