Saltdogs' Guevara Heads West to San Diego

DURHAM, NC - The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball announced today that the contract of Lincoln Saltdogs RHP Carlos Guevara has been purchased by the San Diego Padres. Guevara will join the Padres' Double-A affiliate in San Antonio.

In 11 games, Guevara was 0-1 with a 4.22 ERA. He struck out 11 batters in 10 2/3 innings pitched and had six saves. The Uvalde, TX native was a seventh round selection of the Cincinnati Reds in the 2003 draft. He pitched five seasons in the Reds organization before joining Triple-A Portland of the Padres last season.

This is the fourth player sold to a major league organization since the beginning of the 2009 regular season (Griffin Bailey - Sioux City Explorers, David Espinosa - Grand Prairie AirHogs, Ole Sheldon - St. Paul Saints).
